MINERAL/PHASE ANALYSIS
Phase identifications are based on Siemens (now
“Bruker”) graphics and search/match software, manual
Hanawalt search/match procedures, and comparison to XRD data for our
collection of mineral standards.
Phase concentrations are determined using relative
peak heights/areas, comparison to XRD scans of mineral standards and
comparison to our XRF- determined elemental compositions.
Standard reports include semi-quantitative
estimates of the concentrations of all crystalline phases identified
and a description of the analytical procedure.
Quantitative analyses of specific minerals (eg.
quartz, cristobalite) are available upon request. Detection limits for
individual phases range from <1% to ~5%, depending upon the sample
concentration.
Raw x-ray diffraction data can be provided in
digital form on disk or as a graph on letter-size paper. All reports
are mailed. Reports can be emailed at no extra charge.
